In 2002 just after my first book came out, was near the time a connection was starting to happen through an alumni site of a camp I grew up at in Lake George, NY. I was suddenly finding and corresponding with people who I hadn’t seen in over 40 years. In a conversation with Susan, one of my old girlfriends I mentioned that I am a dream analyst. She had said she’s had a recurring dream she would love to understand and so I invited her to call me so that we could work through decoding its meaning.
INSERT: Of course my old friend would have no way of knowing this, but you know I sit at my father’s z’l desk that he had. It is a glass topped desk from the 50’s and I keep pictures under the glass just like he used to when I was a little girl. Under the glass, on my right side is a picture of my dad, and beside it is a picture of the waterfront at my old camp. The waterfront picture reminds me of “the old rec hall down by the lake”. I put that in quotations because that’s what I call it. I went to Camp Walden from the time I was 5 years old and until my late teens. The old rec hall was made of wood and burned down when I was about 10 or 11. After that, they built a metal structure high up on the mountain.
I also want to add here that in 2002, just after my book came out, sometimes I would feel so sad that my dad wasn’t here to know. I just wished I could tell him I published a book, and wondered what he would say if he only knew.
So back to my story about Susan. She did call me and we did analyze her dream successfully. A few days later, I got an email from Sue thanking me so much for helping her understand the dreams, and even adding with excitement that now that she knows the steps to decode the dream she had since made several other connections in the dream. She closed off the letter with a p.s. It read like this:
“p.s. I have been so caught up with my dream, that I keep forgetting to tell you, the other night I had a dream. I dreamed of your father. It was Visiting Day at camp. We were in the old rec hall down by the lake. And he was dancing with such joy that it was contagious to us all.”
This is one of those very strange things that happen sometimes. I can’t help believing it was a message from my dad z’l. I felt like he was letting me know he knows I published a book.

Awesome!! Love it!
Thank you! It was a pretty amazing experience!
Yes indeed, our dear departed are always with us. Your dad must be very proud of you Layne , and all the good work you do.
Thank you so much Salwa! I wish you a wonderful day.
Layne, I lost my husband March 4th 2021. To say I was devastated is an understatement. We had dated 3 years and although we had plans on getting married sometime in future we decided to do it right away due to his health declining so quickly and suddenly. We weren’t sure he would pull through. He did pull through and made it 4 months then passed. We were married 4 days. I have yet to have one single dream of him. What are your thoughts on why I haven’t. It puzzles me. I did see a silouet of his face in a wall I painted. I thought I was loosing my mind at first but after taking a photo of it every person I showed it to saw him as well. But nothing since.
Hi Melissa. Thanks so much for reaching out. I am so sorry for your loss. While I am a spiritual person at heart, I am in the business of looking at dreams from a purely psychological perspective. I wrote this particular piece on my blog under a heading titled: “Dreams I can’t explain”.That’s because I have an openness and appreciation for the spiritual. As for you not seeing your late husband in a dream, I am certain you have seen him!! You just haven’t yet REMEMBERED a dream in which he appeared! After 50 years of studying dreams, I have confidence you will, one day soon, wake with a remembered dream and will see him again. The image he described to you about swimming in clear, blue water towards the sound of your voice, is such a beautiful image. Hold it close. I wish you all my best and hope you experience no more sorrow but instead wonderful memories of him. Take care, and thank you again for reaching out.
I just lost my husband of 42 years and l got a chance to see him again can you tell me if are loved ones are still with us and watching over us .l miss him so very bad and l would love to see him again.
Hi Connie. While I look at dreams from a psychological perspective I also believe we are multitasking. I love the analysis of a dream. I am also a spiritual person and so yes. I believe our loved ones are not far away. Same as a baby inside the womb, because we can’t see them in the same way doesn’t mean they are not here. I am sorry for your loss.
When my fiance was on the ventilator -13 days and finally woke up and all tubes were taken out, he later when was able to speak said he was swimming and swimming in the most beautiful clear blue water. He said he just kept swimming and swimming toward the sound of my voice. And that’s all he could remember. What do you make of this and what does that mean. After 4 days being off vent he was release to come home. They recommend him go to a rehab in nursing home but he wouldn’t hear of it, so I brought him home and did everything he needed and occasionally therapist would come to our home to do physical therapy. Also he had to go to Dialysis r days a week. After 2 weeks his kidney function improved and dialysis was no longer needed. Unfortunately he passed 4 months later.
